Content Summary

Individuals who have suffered a brain injury and have co-occurring behavioral health conditions often face significant challenges in receiving care. Compared to the general population receiving behavioral health treatment, individuals with brain injury are more likely to have mental health diagnoses such as posttraumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, and psychotic disorder.

The Brain Injury Essentials series includes a grouping of courses that provide a foundation for understanding the physiological and psychological effects of brain injury on mental health and that explore how skills deficits can impact therapeutic interventions, provide effective communication strategies when working with individuals with brain injury and mental health issues, and that define the importance of screening for brain injury to better understand the severity and impact it has on behavioral health treatment.

Courses in this Series Include:

  1. Brain Injury Essentials I: Brain Injury Basics
  2. Brain Injury Essential II: Adapting Treatment Strategies for BI
  3. Brain Injury Essentials III: Screening and Identification
