Course Summary

People who are incarcerated often face significant challenges when released, including limited employment opportunities, lack of housing and healthcare, as well as dealing with the social stigma and lasting impacts of unfair treatment in society. Reentering the community and reuniting with family can also be stressful for everyone involved. Training family members can positively influence reentry by providing you with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the reentry process, minimize conflict, and create a stable, supportive environment for your family.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Create a reentry plan that supports a family member’s reentry into the community.
    a. Identify key elements in the reentry process
    b. Identify challenges that may arise for your family
    c. Recognize strategies to address challenges
    d. Choose strategies to support reentry


Learning Audience

This training is for family members of incarcerated adults who are preparing for reentry or who have been recently released from a correctional facility. How "family" is defined is up to you - this could be parents, grandparents, children, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, or others who play a supportive or caregiving role.
