Course Summary
This course is centered around the intersection of aging, homelessness, mental health, and trauma. Its primary objective is to address the unique needs of individuals who are experiencing homelessness in Colorado. The course offers a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by older adults in homeless populations, including the accelerated onset of chronic illnesses, substance use disorders, incarceration, and mental health conditions. The course emphasizes trauma-informed care, which means participants will learn how to approach interactions with sensitivity and understanding. They will also learn to recognize the complex histories and experiences that may contribute to the mental health struggles of this population. Participants will develop skills for building trust, establishing rapport, and providing effective support to aging individuals experiencing homelessness.
