Veterans Experiencing Homelessness or Houselessness

Course Summary

The goal of this course is to offer a deep dive into the foundational knowledge, evidence-based practices, and the intricate intersections and complexities inherent in addressing homelessness among Veterans. Through the lens of trauma-informed care and strength-based practices, participants will explore the biopsychosocial aspects of veteran homelessness, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the complexities of care. Additionally, this course will examine the innovative strategies and models employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs and community-based partners to combat homelessness and housing instability among veterans, empowering participants to contribute meaningfully to these crucial efforts.


Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Assess the impact of trauma on the mental health and well-being of Veterans experiencing homelessness.
  2. Recognize the interconnected nature of chronic health conditions, psychiatric diagnoses, and social factors in the context of Veteran homelessness.
  3. Develop individualized interventions that address the unique needs of Veterans, taking into consideration their overall well-being.


Learning Audience

The learners for this training are behavioral health service providers, social workers, counselors, peer support specialists, and other professionals who support individuals with substance use and behavioral health conditions.


Continuing Education Credits

This course is eligible for Continued Education Units (CEU) upon completion, which are awarded as follows: 

  • 1 CE credit awarded per (1) hour of completed learning
