Course Summary
This course equips behavioral health providers with essential skills to deliver affirming, inclusive, and trauma-informed care for 2SLGBTQIA+ clients. Given the significant disparities in mental health outcomes among 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals—including elevated rates of depression, anxiety, and a staggering 40% prevalence of suicidal ideation in transgender populations—providers must be prepared to address these unique challenges. Participants will learn to identify and discuss the histories and meanings of various 2SLGBTQIA+ Pride flags, contextualizing their importance to community identity and resilience. The course will also cover both historical and contemporary issues, such as systemic discrimination and historical trauma, that impact 2SLGBTQIA+ communities today. Through culturally sensitive approaches, participants will gain skills in applying inclusive practices that support identity, respectful language, and compassionate care, ultimately fostering a safer and more supportive environment for 2SLGBTQIA+ clients.
