Perinatal Substance Use Disorder Series

Course Summary

This series equips medical, behavioral health, and service providers working with perinatal women/individuals with foundational knowledge on perinatal substance use disorders (SUDs).


Topics include epidemiology, prevalence rates in Colorado, and the influence of stigma, bias, and systemic racism on diagnosis and treatment. Providers and others will learn to recognize SUD concerns during pregnancy, early parenthood, and within the parent-child dyad. The training covers theoretical frameworks, policy considerations, screening, referral, and treatment approaches. Upon completion, participants will be able to incorporate anti-racist practices, identify SUD impacts on parent-child relationships, and effectively use tools and resources to support families.

Learning Audience

The learners for this training are behavioral health service providers, social workers, counselors, peer support specialists, and other professionals who support individuals with substance use and behavioral health conditions.


Continuing Education Credits

Individual courses in this series are eligible for Continued Education Units (CEU) upon completion, which are awarded as follows: 

  • 1 CEU credit awarded per (1) hour of completed learning
