Race & Behavioral Health: Asian Americans

Course Summary

This course will delve into the unique experiences of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States while recognizing the immense diversity within this population. You will gain the knowledge and skills to effectively engage in various behavioral health settings to improve your cultural responsiveness. We will achieve this by examining cultural differences, challenging biases, and learning how to create inclusive environments.


Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Delineate the diversity and individuality of the group identified as “Asian.”
  • Identify the root causes of mental health disparities for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
  • Demonstrate cultural responsiveness when interacting with AAPI clients.


Learning Audience

The learners for this training are behavioral health service providers, social workers, counselors, peer support specialists, and other professionals who support individuals with substance use and behavioral health conditions.


Continuing Education Credits

This course is eligible for Continued Education Units (CEU) upon completion, which are awarded as follows: 

  • 1 CEU credit awarded per (1) hour of completed learning
