Course Summary

Religion and spirituality are important aspects of human life. This course is designed to help behavioral health professionals develop their cultural competency by supporting individuals of any religious or spiritual orientation in advancing their mental well-being. We will explore the impact of religion and spirituality on patients and their communities, examining both the positive and negative aspects, as well as how to effectively incorporate religious and spiritual beliefs and practices into assessments, clinical encounters, and treatment plans. Using case scenarios, this training will demonstrate practical strategies for engaging in meaningful conversations about religion and spirituality to promote better mental health for patients and clients by fostering connection with oneself and others.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Integrate spiritual and religious beliefs and practices into assessment and treatment planning.
  • Prescribe evidence-based ways to advance human flourishing.
