Telebehavioral Health for Children, Youth, and Families

Course Summary

This course presents behavioral health providers with knowledge of the challenges, adaptations, and strategies for best practices when using telebehavioral health with children, youth, and families. Telebehavioral Health (TBH) services are an emerging modality for providing behavioral healthcare that significantly benefits the treated population.


Course content explains how TBH services benefit children, youth, and families. You will learn that children, youth, and families are great candidates for TBH in certain circumstances. There are also some instances where TBH is not a good fit. You will learn how virtual modalities can allow children, youth, and families to access healthcare that might not otherwise be easily accessible to them.


Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Integrate knowledge of the benefits, limitations, considerations, and mental health status of children, youth, and families in Colorado to inform your interaction with patients.
  • Demonstrate a language and culturally centered approach when providing telebehavioral health (TBH) for children, youth, and families.
  • Create an action plan for treating children, youth, and families through TBH.


Learning Audience

The learners for this training are behavioral health service providers, social workers, counselors, peer support specialists, and other professionals who support individuals with substance use and behavioral health conditions.


American Psychological Association Continuing Education (APA CE) Credits

This course is eligible for Continued Education Units (CEU) upon completion, which are awarded as follows: 

  • 1 APA CEU credit awarded per (1) hour of completed learning
