Course Summary
The percentage of Veterans in Colorado surpasses the national average, standing at 7.4% (U.S. Census, 2020). Our Veterans have served and sacrificed for our nation and deserve the very best care. This course is designed to provide you with knowledge, tools, and insights to support Veterans in the community care setting. It covers barriers to care, protective factors, and treatment considerations for Veterans. Additionally, you will gain information and skills to navigate suicide prevention when serving this population group.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Describe how military culture shapes the mental health of Service Members and Veterans, including common protective and risk factors.
- Quickly identify and find evidence-based screening tools and treatments that are effective and culturally competent in treating Veterans' mental health needs.
- Prepare to complete thorough risk assessments and safety plans.
Learning Audience
The learners for this training are behavioral health service providers, social workers, counselors, peer support specialists, and other professionals who support individuals with substance use and behavioral health conditions.
