An overview of alternative payment models (APMs), how APMs vary from a fee for service payment approach, why models are shifting from volume to value driven payment, how changes align in clinical models, and provider roles in achieving quality outcomes.


Learning Objectives

Upon completing this material, learners will be able to:

  1. Providers will be able to identify which specific alternative payment models (APMs) are available to behavioral health (BH) providers and under what circumstances.​
  2. Providers will have a basic understanding of how the prospective payment system model and essential provider fee schedule work.​
  3. ​Providers will know which types of topics to raise with Managed Care Entities (MCEs) related to the APMs during the contracting process.​
  4. Providers will know what their specific responsibilities are when participating in Colorado’s BH APMs.
