Course Summary
Participants will strengthen their ability to recognize, respond to, and support patients and families experiencing grief and bereavement in rural and frontier communities. The course emphasizes culturally responsive, community-based, and relationship-driven approaches to help patients, families, and providers navigate loss.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Define grief, bereavement, and mourning in clinical and cultural terms relevant to rural communities
- Identify common grief reactions and complicating factors unique to rural contexts
- Apply communication techniques that convey empathy and cultural respect
- Recognize when grief requires additional behavioral or medical support
- Identify local and telehealth grief resources and peer networks to connect individuals and families to support
Learning Audience
The learners for this training are behavioral health service providers, social workers, counselors, peer support specialists, and other professionals who support individuals with substance use and behavioral health conditions.
Continuing Education Credits
This course is eligible for Nursing Continuing Professional Development (NCPD) credit upon completion, which are awarded as follows:
- 1 NCPD credit awarded per (1) hour of completed learning
