Course Summary
This course aims to establish a foundational understanding of the challenges faced by children, youth, and families experiencing homelessness. Learners will explore the unique impacts on each family member, delve into the dynamics of family functioning amid homelessness, and examine how families navigate, operate, and adapt as a unit in the face of these challenges. Additionally, the course will address the varying levels of barriers and access to support and care, both at the individual and family unit levels, providing insights into the complexities of addressing the diverse needs of families experiencing homelessness.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Summarize the various ways homelessness impacts different family members and understand the distinctions between the experiences of parents or adults and young people.
- Interpret how women or individuals with uteruses navigate healthcare and parenting, including the nuances of parenthood for those who can become pregnant.
- Explain the importance of employing strength-based and trauma-informed approaches in conversations with families, particularly in addressing complex or nuanced scenarios affecting clients or program participants.

The learners for this training are behavioral health service providers, social workers, counselors, peer support specialists, and other professionals who support individuals with substance use and behavioral health conditions.

This course is eligible for Continued Education Units (CEU) upon completion, which are awarded as follows:
