The goal of this course is to help assessors and others involved in the Enhanced Standardized Assessment (ESA) process understand Children and Youth Mental Health Treatment Act (CYMHTA) specific requirements for completing an ESA. This course also describes the role that ESAs play in accessing funding for behavioral health treatment through CYMHTA.

As the population of older adults grows, behavioral health providers are increasingly caring for people with neurodegenerative diseases, cognitive impairment, and their caregivers. This course offers an overview of major neurodegenerative conditions, their clinical features and progression, their impact on mental health and behavior, and the role of interprofessional collaboration.

Contingency Management: Principles & Practice is designed for healthcare professionals dedicated to enhancing their therapeutic approaches in treating substance use disorders. This course provides an in-depth exploration of CM, an evidence-based method that utilizes positive reinforcements to foster desirable patient behaviors. Through detailed modules, participants will gain a robust understanding of the theoretical foundations of CM, its practical application in diverse settings, its proven effectiveness across various demographics, and the complexities of its implementation within legal and financial contexts.

By the end of this course, participants will master the principles of Contingency Management, including its neurobiological underpinnings and the mechanics of operant conditioning. They will learn to assess CM’s adaptability and efficacy across different populations, address common implementation challenges, and counter misconceptions. Additionally, participants will develop the skills to design, administer, and evaluate Voucher-Based Reinforcement Therapy programs, ensuring their success within community health centers. Furthermore, they will navigate the legal and funding frameworks necessary for CM programs, particularly in Colorado and the broader United States, ensuring compliance and ethical integrity in their operations. This course is ideal for healthcare professionals, therapists, and counselors, offering a flexible, self-paced learning environment that integrates seamlessly into their professional practice.

Although there is a similar prevalence of behavioral health disorders in rural and urban areas, the obstacles to getting help are very different. This course explores why creating unrealistic discharge plans can result in rural patients being sent home with resources and services that are inaccessible or unavailable, increasing the risk of hospital readmission and worsening health outcomes.

Additionally, you will examine how unrealistic discharge plans can place additional strain on already overburdened and under-resourced rural providers, who may be forced to scramble for alternative resources or services for care they are not fully equipped to provide (Morales, 2020).

Upon conclusion, you will be better prepared to increase the feasibility of discharge plans for rural patients and improve your communication with rural healthcare providers; ultimately leading to improved transition of care and care coordination for individuals living in rural areas with behavioral health needs.
