Although there is a similar prevalence of behavioral health disorders in rural and urban areas, the obstacles to getting help are very different. This course explores why creating unrealistic discharge plans can result in rural patients being sent home with resources and services that are inaccessible or unavailable, increasing the risk of hospital readmission and worsening health outcomes.

Additionally, you will examine how unrealistic discharge plans can place additional strain on already overburdened and under-resourced rural providers, who may be forced to scramble for alternative resources or services for care they are not fully equipped to provide (Morales, 2020).

Upon conclusion, you will be better prepared to increase the feasibility of discharge plans for rural patients and improve your communication with rural healthcare providers; ultimately leading to improved transition of care and care coordination for individuals living in rural areas with behavioral health needs.

This course explores the unique experiences, needs, and challenges faced by Deaf, DeafBlind, DeafDisabled, and Hard of Hearing communities in accessing medical healthcare. Participants will learn about deafness and Deaf culture to identify barriers to care, understand health disparities, and apply standards of care to ensure equitable health outcomes. This course emphasizes the importance of taking a linguistically and culturally responsive approach in clinical practice, guiding participants in developing personalized action plans to better serve deaf and hard of hearing patients. Through research-based text, vicarious observation, and practical exercises, learners will gain the knowledge and skills to improve healthcare equity and outcomes for these communities.

Most youth who become involved in the justice system are likely to have at least one diagnosable mental disorder, highlighting a significant public health and social justice issue. These young individuals often also face systemic barriers, including socioeconomic challenges, a history of trauma, and pervasive social stigma, all of which create barriers to accessing proper support services. By utilizing the framework of restorative community justice, this training emphasizes trauma-informed practices and culturally sensitive approaches. Participants will gain actionable strategies to effectively recognize the unique challenges these youth face and apply strategies that foster healing and rehabilitation. Ultimately, this course aims to promote a more empathetic and effective response to the needs of justice-involved youth, thereby contributing to their successful reintegration into society.
